Who we are

FuzzyReg is an independent website. It is not run by, affiliated with or endorsed by the DVSA, the DVLA or any other part of government. For anything in this notice, contact [contact email to be added].

Analytics cookies

With your permission, the site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and features are used, so it can be improved. It is not used for advertising, and advertising features and Google signals are switched off. Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_…, which last up to two years, and Google processes the data on its servers, which may be outside the UK.

Nothing is loaded from Google Analytics and no analytics cookie is set unless you choose Accept. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, that is treated as a refusal and you are not asked.

The only other thing stored in your browser is your choice itself, kept in local storage so the site does not ask again. You can change it here at any time; refusing after accepting also deletes the analytics cookies.

When you use the site

Server access log. Each request records the time, the page or API path, the response and your browser's user agent, with your IP address shortened to its network (the last part is removed). The search you typed is not recorded: query strings and referring addresses are removed before anything is written. The log is used to find faults and abuse, and is deleted after 14 days.

Rate limiting. To stop the service being overwhelmed, your full IP address is held in memory while you are making requests, and dropped within minutes once you stop. It is never written to disk.

Plain-English searches. When a description contains words the site does not understand, those words alone are logged — never the rest of the query and never your address — so the vocabulary can be improved.

Service providers. Searches run on the vehicle database hosted by MotherDuck, which receives the search pattern but not your IP address. Pages are served from our hosting provider. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which, like any web server, receives your IP address and browser details when your browser fetches them; it sets no cookies.

The lawful basis for all of this is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website. Analytics cookies are the one exception: they rest on your consent.

The vehicle record

The site searches the DVSA MOT history bulk download: registration, make, model, colour, fuel, dates and the latest MOT result, expiry and mileage for each tested vehicle. It contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0, and it holds no keeper names or addresses.

A registration can still be personal data where the vehicle's keeper is a private individual, because the keeper could be traced from it through other sources. This site treats it that way. It never combines the record with anything that names a keeper, and it has no means to. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest, and the public's, in searching vehicle information the DVSA publishes openly — for example to identify a vehicle seen in an incident, or check one before buying.

The copy is rebuilt every week from the DVSA's latest file, so it holds what the DVSA currently publishes and nothing older.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to its use — including, if you are a vehicle's keeper, to your vehicle's record being searchable here. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
